The temple at Kom Ombo was built during the Graeco-Roman period (332 BC AD 395). Its stands high on a promontory at a bend in the Nile, where in ancient times sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. The temple is unique because it is in fact a double temple, dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god, associated with the wicked god Seth, and Horus ( Haroeris) the falcon-headed god. The layout combines two temples in one , two linked hypostyle halls with carvings of the two gods on either side, and twin sanctuaries. The temple is a testament to the importance Ancient Egyptian priests placed in the natural cycles and crocodiles of the Nile.
