Excellent cruise and terrific crew – This is a wonderful cruise ship! It is decorated in an elegant style. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are large for a ship. Our housekeepers were very kind… read more and made elaborate towel art for us every day. The food was delicious! The roof deck has a nice sitting area with a bar and pool. My new friend Mahmoud, was especially kind in the bar and opened early to make me delicious coffee.
Brilliant experience – I stayed on this boat on what was my first ever river cruise, and was not disappointed! The staff on board were extremely friendly, the food was good, and there… read more were plenty of events for the guests in the evening!
The cleaners also spend a lot of time making funny inventions from towels, and we were always laughing upon our return to our rooms!
This is a brilliant experience, and there are some great views from the top deck.
An unforgettable trip in luxurious conditions at a very friendly price – It was the most beautiful trip of my life, a real luxury trip. The ship is wonderful, our cabin was clean and large, nicely and tastefully furnished. A comfortable,… read more huge bed, a spa bath equipped with everything. Nothing was missing!
The food was gorgeous. They are spectacular, beautifully served, delicious and very varied dishes. We don’t eat poultry, and I don’t eat fish either, but I could still choose from at least 3 types of meat dishes! And desserts and fruits! They were divine!
The staff was kind, polite, courteous, everyone tried to please us.
My husband and I spent our wedding anniversary on the ship. It was amazing! The staff treated us with a cake and greeted us! It was very touching, we didn’t even expect it. Thanks for it everyone!
We really like to travel, we have already been to 70 countries, and we have just been to Egypt for the fourth time. But we have never had such an experience! We had nothing to complain about, we had a great time.
Thank you and special thanks to Martina Michael for recommending this boat to us and getting us a better cabin!
Eternal gratitude!
Hope to be back next year!
The bestest holiday of my lif – This was the most wonderful holiday of my life.l am 85 and love to travel. There was nothing that l need complain about. The service of the entire staff including… read more .the Captain and his crew welcomed us like long lost friends. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, pillows as soft as fluffy. Like sleeping on air. The food was spectacular and varied.
Because we had travelled a long way to get to Egypt l booked for 14 days and everyone of those days was as good as the last.
To visit the temples we had a wonderful guide Michael who took so much care of us and explained about everything we saw
He was never late and had our welfare always in his thoughts.
If you are thinking of a river cruise. Don’t delay. Book it today
You will not regret it
Decent food friendly staff – Very comfortable bed, slept like a log. Staff very accommodating. Buffet meals worked well, but don’t expect to get what is sometimes advertised on their themed nights. Oriental night had… read more every other kind of food bar Oriental, quite amused by it. Cabins comfortable but our shower was made for someone 5ft tall. Sun deck was really nice including the jacuzzi.
Clean and efficient cruise – Incredibly efficient staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Very clean and pleasant atmosphere. Even though I was taken ill on this trip, I must send my thanks… read more to the restaurant manager who went out of his way to look after me. During service, he even got the kitchen to make an omelette for me. Would definitely recommend
A lovely way to spend 4 days of leisure – I can’t fault anything about my trip on Chateau Lafayette. The 4 day cruise down the Nile is so relaxing and the staff on board ensure that it stays that… read more way. There is always someone available on reception to answer queries should they arise.
The rooms are well equipped and staff are polite and helpful. Everything seemed clean and fresh and the beds were comfy.
The boat has a pool on the top deck which is very cooling during a heatwave.
NB anyone entering/exiting should place a towel on the sides so that they don’t burn themselves on the sides-they get hot when the sun has been beaming down on them all morning- and don’t walk barefoot on the astroturf. Ouch!
Plenty loungers to go around to soak up the rays, and there is shade on the top deck too for those a little more averse to sun worshipping. Afternoon Tea is served there each day (with fresh fruit for anyone who cannot partake of the numerous cakes).
The lounge on the second floor is open all day for drinks, and there is entertainment each evening in the form of Belly Dancing and Nubian music.
‘Arabic’ night involves everyone dressing up in Galabeyas for dinner (Traditional Egyptian costume- available in the on board gift shop) and a photographer will take pictures of everyone which you can buy the next day – haggle!
The restaurant on the first floor serves a wide range of items for breakfast and dinner, with a ‘theme’ each evening eg Mexican/BBQ/Seafood/Turkish. As a vegan I worried I would struggle to eat on the cruise, but it was quite the opposite- the Egyptian/Middle Eastern options such as Falafel, Molokhia, Koshary, Mahshi (stuffed veg), flatbreads/dips, and rice were plentiful. Salads tended to also contain meat or cheese so I couldn’t eat those, and the vegetable/side dishes were often sprinkled with cheese/dairy (‘veganism’ is not well understood as a concept) so these were also off the table for me, but I did not go hungry.
Below deck there is a massage parlour and a hairdresser, but these are not obvious. The facilities are small but do the job. The massage was wonderful.
Worth noting that on day/night 1 the boat does not leave port so you will be overnight in the ‘harbour’ and with plenty free time beforehand- a good opportunity to explore Luxor town if you can (or Aswan if you are doing this in reverse).
The cruiseships park parallel to each other while in the port, so entry/egress entails walking across 3 or 4 other boats (a good opportunity to nosy at the other ships’ decor- there are some beauties!). A ‘pass’ is given on the way out to ensure that no one is left behind.
My travel was arranged by an agency so came with trips to the temples included. I am not sure if these options would have been available had I travelled independently.
It is so relaxing to sit and watch Egypt sail by, listening to the Adan (call to prayer), listening to the nesting water birds, watching the farmers, fishers, and the daily life of the locals pass by admiring the changing landscape, fro marshland to desert, temple spotting on the shore. I highly recommend!
The most amazing experience – We cannot recommend chateau Lafayette highly enough.
Travelling from the UK to Egypt March 2024, we had some worries about our trip, however just landing in Cairo airport quickly… read more put these fears to rest. The Egyptian people are so friendly and their hospitality and want for tourists to see their historic country is evident from the first moment.
This was even more so with Chateau Lafayette.
We were met at Aswan airport by a representative and we were not left to organise anything ourselves again until our train left the platform after our last night. We were given lots of relaxation time and time to explore ourselves if we wanted, however they made sure this was done in a safe way. Each and every member of the Chateau Lafayette team went above and beyond the hospitality we would expect to make our stay unforgettable. We cannot think of a better way to explore this incredible country and history than onboard this ship.
We had the perfect balance of exploration, adventure and relaxation. To sit aboard a boat, in a swimming pool whilst sailing along the Nile seeing animals, people, houses, farmland is incredible.
Couple this with stops along the way to explore ancient historic sites which are breathtaking makes for the perfect holiday.
We had the privilege of our guide Shenouda. His knowledge on ancient Egypt and his ability to tell a story fascinated us and we became obsessed with the stories of the Gods and the Kings. His knowledge of the sites allowed us to do these experiences with none of the usual frictions which can really ruin a visit. He knew the perfect order to see the sites, where and when it would be too busy/too hot to make sure we saw everything. We noticed the difference once we left doing other experiences on our own, the passion he brought to the sites and the knowledge made it so much more exciting, but the hassle we got when we were not with him and the mistakes we made of timings/order around the sites etc made other visits less fun so we can not recommend Shenouda highly enough.
The boat was clean, well looked after. The team were kind, fun and friendly and looked after us so well. Everyone on board was having a great time and everyone got on well due to the happy vibe of the staff.
This is an experience not to be missed and we will be singing the praises of Chateau Lafayette to anyone who will listen. Thank you for an unforgettable holiday. We will definitely return in the future!

The boat is not overly impressive from the exterior. The rooms are pretty dated and could use some renovation. That’s the worst of it!
From that point… read more on the list of what we liked grew quickly. First, the staff provided some of the best service we experienced in Egypt. From the room cabin cleanliness and fun surprises when we returned each day, to the exceptional wait staff in the restaurant. bartenders knew how to pour a drink and relaxing up top as we cruised along the Nile was relaxing and a real joy.
The food… OMGoodness. The food was very good. We were frankly surprised by the wide selection and the cooks serving were always fun to banter with. Breakfast left us full for the day and Dinner left us stuffed for the evening. Special shoutout to Mostafa for his helpful hints on where to go in Luxor.
The boat is better than many we saw that were in a "higher" class. It is a little older with charm for a Nile cruise. You get more than you pay for on Chateau Lafayette.
